Halloween Themed Member Meeting recap

The October 18th ski club meeting kicked off with a Halloween decorated themed Knights of Columbus Hall. Good food, great friends, a guest speaker, a recap of recent trips, future trips, a memorial bike ride for Ron Saboe, presentation of a major award, and a huge financial pledge made the meeting memorable. The guest speaker was Amy Feight of the Salvation Army. Amy told of people whose lives they’ve changed and the goodness that they have done. The EISC is proud to support the Salvation Army by many members volunteering to ring bells, give their time and money to such a worthy cause. At the time of this writing there are still opportunities to volunteer. Send an email to Pat Boland if you are interested in volunteering.

Jim Wittnebel talked about the recent bicycle ride in Decorah in memory of Ron Sabo long time member who was tragically killed by a vehicle while riding his bike.

The number of past and proposed trips offer something to everyone. Steve Cummings and Trip Chairs presented information about ski trips to Steamboat, Minnesota, and Winter Park, Black Hills bus trip, proposed trip to Ireland and Scotland, local bike trips culinary night. It would be hard to find a more happening group of people.

One of the highlights of the night was the presentation of the First Place "Gary Heller Award for Website Excellence" to Kim Betts. Out of 61 club contenders, this is the second year in a row that EISC has received the First-Place award. It is the unwavering commitment of members like Kim who make this club special and to have her recognized at a national level makes this award even more special.

The surprise of the evening occurred when Rick Hurtado, a 35-year ski club member, accomplished skier and philanthropist capped off the night with a surprise announcement. The Marilyn Hayes and Rick Hurtado H and H Foundation pledged a large charitable financial contribution to the EISC. Thank you, Rick, for your dedication and financial support. The EISC is a 501C nonprofit. As the year winds down think of the EISC for your year-end distributions and as part of your estate planning.
