Vice President's Message for January 2026

Steve Cummings | Published on 1/1/2026

Greetings East Iowa Ski Club members. We hope everyone had a happy holiday season. The December meeting was festive, seeing everyone in ugly Christmas sweaters. We heard the trip leader’s updates on the upcoming ski trips and adventure trips. Pat Boland gave a report on the Salvation Army bell ringing effort – thanks to all EISC volunteer bell ringers! Janet spoke to everyone on Marty’s condition and treatment plans. We wish them the best.

The major West ski trips are full and the trip leaders provided detail. The Steamboat rooming lists are out and everyone I spoke to that is going is wishing they would have started sooner on ski conditioning. The trip mail list is done and has provided good information on the resort. The Winter Park trip is further out, but there has been progress on the rooming list and a mail list is being developed. Todd and Lori gave an update on the Stillwater, Minnesota ski and adventure trip. We still need better participation on our only overnight Midwest ski trip for 2026. If you support and would like to see the EISC Midwest ski trips continue, please contact the trip leaders and sign up.

On December 16th I joined several EISC members and was able to enjoy great snow and perfect weather at Sundown Mountain for my first ski outing of the year. It is good to support our local ski hill with a fun day trip. It was some of the best skiing I remember this early in the season.

Janet went through some of the issues on the planned Black Hills bus trip. It is a great trip, but it has not gotten the support needed. Fortunately, Dale the bus driver gave us an alternative plan that would take the club through several cities in Texas. This plan seemed to generate quite of bit of support at the meeting. Janet and the Adventure Trip committee will have to work out the details, but this change looks promising. We already have a volunteer trip leader!

Sign-ups have started for the EISC’s Cosmos Highlights of Ireland and Scotland Tour scheduled for September of 2026. Diane Scholl reviewed some of the details for what looks to be a great adventure for those who are able to take advantage of this incredible trip. The itinerary covers most of Ireland and Scotland with local guides providing information on the history and the people. If you have always wanted to see Ireland and Scotland, this would be a best chance and you get to travel with the EISC.

Rosanne Van Cura, Cathy Dick and Lori Huff are this year’s nominating committee. There are profiles on the candidates later in the newsletter. Thank you to the committee for their work and to all candidates who are running for the board. Although it looks pretty easy, we need volunteers to make the club work. The candidates will be introduced at the January Soup and Chili cook-off meeting and the elections will be in February.

Thanks to all who were able to attend the December Christmas themed meeting. The next EISC meeting is for the January Soup and Chili Cook-off. This meeting brings in great food. Hopefully we will get some snow for sledding, snow shoeing of XC skiing Looking forward to seeing everyone at the next EISC event.

Steve Cummings, Vice President

Greetings to everyone!! I hope everybody had a good Christmas and New Years. I do miss seeing all our friends in EISC, but I’m hanging in here. Currently, I am doing radiation treatments into January. Many thanks go to Steve Cummings, who has taken on the duties of President for a majority of the past year. I appreciate everyone who has stepped up to keep EISC thriving.
