Greetings East Iowa Ski Club members!
The April Post Party was a great time. The 250-year Semiquincentennial theme decorations LeeAnn Eddins and her team put up in the Eagle’s Hall were outstanding. LeeAnn’s slide show highlighting the past couple of years’ trips and events was really wonderful. I was smiling through the whole show – it brought back memories. The dinner from LJ Catering (especially the prime rib) was great as usual. Thanks to Rosanne Van Cura for the early birthday cake for George. The Detour Band was good and a lot of fun – there was all kinds of dancing and crowd singing, although I noticed they did play a lot more country songs than some people preferred. Thank you to all of the board members and volunteers that helped make the 2025/26 Post Party a special event!
The new EISC board introductions went well. It was a good, but difficult year with our leader Marty Stimson being sick and passing, however he gave the board structure and positive direction we will continue to follow. The addition of LeeAnn Eddins and Dawn Novetzke is already bringing progressive energy we can build on. It will be good to get new ideas and approaches to different issues in our board meetings. Although each board member is assigned a job title, everyone assists in other areas as needed. That way everyone can learn the different jobs that make the board work. Being on the board can be fun and is rewarding. It is essential we continue to have good volunteer board members continue to serve to guide the club so we can continue to succeed.
We are starting the clubs 2026/27 season with a busy summer and some great trips. On May 14th 24 EISC members will be heading out on the Texas bus trip. Thanks to Trip Leader, Cathy Dick for organizing and managing this trip. In September, Adventure Trip Coordinator and our resident travel expert, Diane Scholl will be leading 19 EISC members on a Cosmos Highlights of Ireland and Scotland Tour that will be an exceptional experience. Closer to home the club has three bike trail ride/camping events scheduled. The first is the Pine Lake/Iowa River’s Edge Trail ride on June 6th. The camping will be in Pine Lake State Park. Thanks to Dave and Bev Brown for leading the ride and Kim Betts for organizing the camping.
The next meeting will be our annual EISC Spring Picnic on June 13th at the Meadowlark Pavilion in Wanatee Park. We plan to get sign-ups for the June 20th EISC night at the Kernels Baseball game (thanks Steve Simmen) and the July 11th EISC Marty Stimson Memorial Golf Outing at Fawn Creek (thanks, Todd Eadie). We hope to start selling spots for the January 30 to February 6 Breckenridge ski trip at the picnic, once we find a Trip Leader. Skiing the five Peaks at Breckenridge is always a good time. We got a great price on the luxury, ski in/gondola out Mountain Thunder Lodge condos that are only two blocks from downtown Breck. Please see the article inside for more information. Unfortunately, there is only room for 24 members so be sure and get there early. Looking forward to seeing everyone at one of the EISC events this summer!
