Greetings East Iowa Ski Club members. The EISC Texas bus trip just wrapped up as I am writing this update. I’m looking forward to the pictures and the stories from the trip. Thanks to Cathy Dick for leading this trip. Unfortunately, we were unable to go because of a surprise detached retina repair surgery at the U of Iowa Health Care. All went well and I am working on the four-to-six-week recovery. This was a lesson to buy trip insurance as weird stuff seems to happen more frequently as I get older. The extensive recovery restrictions are a challenge but I’m adjusting. I have heard the eye patch makes me look like a little bit like a pirate.
The first EISC event of the summer is June 6 - the Pine Lake camping and Iowa River’s Edge Trail ride up near Eldora. I am hoping to be cleared to attend this bike ride however it might be a good idea to yell early if you come up on my left. Thanks to Dave and Bev Brown for leading this event.
The annual EISC Spring Picnic on June 13 at the Meadowlark Pavilion in Wanatee Park (see the article). Hopefully we will have a nice day for the meeting and grilling. We plan to start sign-ups for the June 20 EISC night at the Kernels Baseball game (thanks, Steve Simmen) and the July 11 EISC Marty Stimson Memorial Golf Outing at Fawn Creek (thanks, Todd Eadie).
The big news at the Spring Picnic is our new Trip Leaders will start selling spots for the January 30 to February 6 Breckenridge ski trip. We want to thank LeeAnn Eddins and Kathy Takes for volunteering as Trip Leaders! Skiing the five Peaks at Breckenridge is always a good time. We got a great price on the luxury, ski-in/gondola-out Mountain Thunder Lodge condos that are only two blocks from downtown Breck. LeeAnn’s enthusiastic approach to everything and Kathy’s experience should make this a trip one to remember. Please see the article on the Breckenridge trip for details.
Our Adventure Trip Coordinator, Rosanne Van Cura is working hard on the upcoming adventure trips. The Cosmos Highlights of Ireland and Scotland Tour is all set for Fall of 2026. I believe Rosanne is deciding between a couple of bus trip options for the Spring of 2027 & has several cool options for the Fall.
Dawn Novetzke, our Special Activities Coordinator is busy with several summer time options for our EISC members. There are a lot of bike rides, evenings out with bands and fun events coming up. Please keep a look out for EISC Forum updates for some entertaining activities.
I am looking forward to seeing everyone at the June 13 Spring Picnic or at one of the EISC events this summer!
