Greetings East Iowa Ski Club members. It was good to see and talk with everyone at the EISC Spring Picnic on June 13
th at the Meadowlark Pavilion in Wanatee Park. We had 66 members attend the picnic this year. Thank you to Ski Trip Leaders
LeeAnn Eddins and
Kathy Takes who did a great job selling 22 of the 28 spots for the Jan 30 – Feb 6 ski trip to Breckenridge at the meeting. Thanks to
Janet Stimson who signed folks up for the June 20
th EISC night at the Kernels Baseball game and thanks to Steve Simmen, for leading the event. Thanks to Event Leader,
Todd Eadie for signing up 28 golfers for the July 11
th EISC Marty Stimson Memorial Golf Outing at Fawn Creek Golf Course.
There were trip reports on the June 6th - Pine Lake camping and Iowa River’s Edge Trail ride up near Eldora. Thanks to Dave and Bev Brown for leading this event. I was not cleared to participate in what sounded like a great time. Thank you to Cathy Dick, the Texas bus trip leader who was ill & had to miss the picnic. However, we want to thank Jeff Owen for doing a great job filling everyone in on what sounded like a very fun trip to Texas. The trip surveys & comments were all positive, except for hotel in Galveston that was a bit of a disappointment. Everyone seemed to really appreciate Dale, our favorite bus driver for his work and Cathy for her organizational skills keeping everything going.
The meeting covered updates on future trips from Diane Scholl on the Cosmos Highlights of Ireland and Scotland Tour S
ept 3rd – 15th, 2026. We have 19 members looking forward to this adventure. Thank you, Diane, for your work on this exciting journey. Thanks to Wendall Sents who talked about the Cedar Falls/Waterloo camping and bike ride weekend Sept 23rd – 27th. Thanks to Kim Betts for setting up the campers at George Wythe State Park. The bike ride will be on Sept 26th. There is another camping weekend/bike ride set up for Aug 1st on the Sauk Rail Trail in west central Iowa between Lake View and Carroll, IA.
Thanks to Dawn Novetzke, our Special Activities Coordinator, who spoke on upcoming Culinary Nights. The Sept 27th Bin Bash in Stone City and the July 3rd Fireworks & Firefly’s at Lowe Park was covered. Our Adventure Trip Coordinator, Rosanne Van Cura wasn’t able to attend because of a conflict with a class reunion. We tried to cover some of her ideas for the major 2027 trip ideas. As usual, the food at the picnic was very good. Thanks to the Langhoff’s for the use of their grill and to Dale Bohrer bringing it to the park and getting going during the meeting. Thanks to LeeAnn and Dawn for filling in for our House and Clinics Coordinator, Tim Gull who was on vacation on the North Carolina Outer Banks. There is a lot to setting up and tearing down for the meetings. The picnic broke up just as the rain started coming down.
There are many summer activities coming up. We have bike rides, dinners, evenings out with bands and fun events happening. Please watch for EISC Forum updates for activities.
I am looking forward to seeing everyone at one of the many upcoming EISC events this summer!
