August President's Message

Steve Cummings | Published on 8/1/2026

Greetings East Iowa Ski Club members. I hope everyone is enjoying their summer. It has been a busy, but fun summer for me. We had a great time at the July 11th EISC Marty Stimson Memorial Golf Outing at Fawn Creek Country Club. Thanks to Event Leader, Todd Eadie for running such a fun outing and thanks to all of the teams for participating in this great event.

Unfortunately, we had to cancel the August 1st bike ride on the Sauk Rail Trail in west central Iowa between Lake View and Carroll, IA. The campers would have gone from July 29 – August 2. There were only a few folks signed up, so we decided it was best to cancel.  We didn’t look at the calendar very closely when scheduling this one. We were too close to RAGBRAI and the Oshkosh Air Show – both are supported by our members every year. It looks like a fun trail and we may try it again at a later date.

Sandra Cummings and I recently returned from an enjoyable bicycle and golf trip to the lake regions of northern Wisconsin. Thanks to our Adventure Trip Coordinator, Rosanne Van Cura and George for setting up a great trip. Riding the paved trails that wind through the pine forests along the many lakes was sure a lot of fun. The area was really scenic although there was some smoke from the Canadian and Minnesota wild fires. We were able to spend one day golfing at the beautiful Plum Lake Golf Course that was built in 1912. We finished the day enjoying a huge dinner at a Wisconsin supper club in the middle of the woods. The area is about 1½ hours north of Wausau, where Todd is setting up a Granite Peak ski trip in February. We have to keep this location on our list for a future bike and camping trips. Just another example of the research the board does for the club.

The next major club event we have coming up is the annual Corn Roast at Sally William’s farm. This is always a good time and a chance to catch up with everyone. The next major club trip that is coming up is for the 19 lucky members joining Diane Scholl on the Cosmos Highlights of Ireland and Scotland Tour September 3rd – 15th, 2026.  The next club camp/bike trip will be the Cedar Falls/Waterloo camping and bike ride weekend September 23rd – 27th hosted by Wendall and Jane Sents. Thanks to Kim Betts for setting up the campers at George Wythe State Park. The bike ride will be on Saturday, September 26th.

There will be many other summer activities coming up. Our members will be enjoying the bike rides, dinners, evenings out with bands and other fun events happening. I hope you will be able to join in on the fun. Please watch for EISC Forum updates for activities.  I am looking forward to seeing everyone at one of the many upcoming EISC events this summer!
