Car Rally - Aug 8 to Backbone State Park You don’t have to have an old or classic car to venture out for a car cruise. Come join us for a leisurely drive along some of our quiet country roads to Backbone State Park. We have picked a fun picturesque route through the Iowa countryside. We will meet at 10:30 a.m. at the Sam's Club parking lot in Hiawatha - on Blairsferry Road towards the north east edge of the parking lot. We will head out about 11:00. Maps will be provided to help us find our way to Backbone State Park so we won’t all have to be in line as we head down the road. We have reserved the South Flats shelter at Backbone Park. The shelter has picnic tables where we will be able to socially distance. Plans are to have lunch around 1pm with everyone bringing their own food, drinks, utensils, and lawn chairs. In the park, there are, of course, numerous hiking trails to enjoy – 21 miles of trails to be exact. There is no planned end time nor route home. Enjoy a little time with some good friends and then explore some of the park. Then choose your own way home. An option on the way home would be to stop by the ice cream shop in Lamont. For those traveling directly to the park, we will be entering the “West Gate Entrance” to the park. From the West Entrance sign, travel .6 miles and turn left. Our reserved shelter area is on your right – The South Flats Shelter. Marty and Janet Stimson 319-389-4156
