Greetings fellow Mount Bachelor trip mates.  As a result of our first day ‘Sell Out’ during the August 4th Corn Roast sales, the participant count has been increased to 24, from 20.  This means four more adventurous souls can experience this truly unique destination!  To secure your reservation, the down payment is required immediately and your membership must be current.

The first time you see Mt. Bachelor, don’t be surprised if you gasp a bit. The ski resort lives atop a dormant volcano and is absolutely stunning in the distance.  As the highest land mass for miles around, the views from atop Mt. Bachelor are equally breathtaking. Mt. Bachelor is part of the Cascade Volcano chain, which runs from Canada into the Pacific Northwest.  Ecology and geology enthusiasts will love learning about the science behind Mt. Bachelor’s formation, just as much as they’ll enjoy skiing or riding the resort’s unusual terrain.

Another important matter relates to travel insurance and it’s relevance to our trip.  Insurance of some kind is strongly recommended in the event of last minute cancelations due to illness or injury prior to travel.  In such cases, the participant will be subject to full penalty that insurance will generally otherwise cover with reimbursement for potential losses.   The other important reason to consider insurance is to cover possible injury during the trip which can otherwise be very costly and unfortunate.   Just ask Bob or Chip!

The club will be flying into the central Oregon airport that serves Redmond and Bend after a stop at Denver.  The town of Bend and its many inns, hotels, boutiques, shops and restaurants a short 22 miles away from the skiing.  A Mt. Bachelor ski vacation offers more than skiing.  On the top of your don’t-miss list should be a beer at the famed Deschutes Brewery Bend Public House.  Bend is a small city on the Deschutes River. West are the lakes and peaks of the Cascade Mountains, with ski resorts and multi-use trails. In town, a trail leads up Pilot Butte, an extinct volcano. South, the High Desert Museum showcases the local environment, with history and live wildlife exhibits. In the Newberry National Volcanic Monument, stairs lead into the Lava River Cave, a huge lava tube.  For those looking to explore the local forests and get their lungs pumping, Mt. Bachelor offers an exceptional cross country trail system.
