The Pat Hamer Annual Memorial Bike Ride Across Cedar Rapids (PHAM-BRACR pronounced fam-bracer) – Sat April 2nd – 10AM
Purpose: My brother, Pat, passed away the first weekend of April 2015. He loved the outdoors and to ride his bike. This is our opportunity to remember him, enjoy what he loved and maybe raise some money to help other struggling veterans.
Route: We will be starting at 10:00 at the park near our home, which is on the corner of Taft Dr and Roosevelt Rd SW. Our destination will be my Brother Mark's house, 9280 Deer Ridge Dr, Cedar Rapids. Some of you have met Mark and his wife, Sue. They have taken part in our Car Rally and breakfast the last couple of years. He has the yellow corvette.
Total mileage will be about 16 miles with most of that being on the trail. Don't let the miles scare you. We plan on taking 3 hours, or so, to cover it.
The plan: We will start at 10:00. This will be a relaxed ride making 2 stops for adult beverages at the Kick Stand and the Broken Spoke. Lunch will be provided at Mark's house around 1:30, or whenever we get there. We will take freewill donations to cover lunch. We hope to donate any extra money to a local veteran’s charity.
The return trip: We will shuttle people back to their cars or you can feel free to ride back. It's a nice round trip.
Weather: Of Course, we are hoping for sunny and 75 but that is not likely the first weekend of April. We all know how to handle a little cold weather so we are doing this as long as it’s over 40 degrees by 10:00. If it is raining or snowing (Yikes!) we will postpone the ride, perhaps to April 9th, the following weekend.
